With a long weekend ahead of us Brooke and I thought we should take advantage of the opportunity to knock off a few more 14ers from our dwindling list. With Friday off, and 4th of July on Tuesday, we only needed to take Monday off work to give ourselves a 5 day weekend.

The plan was to hike up the North Fork of Big Pine Creek and camp somewhere above Sam Mack Meadow. We would then be in a good spot to attempt some or all of the four 14ers we had left above the Palisade Glacier: Polemonium Peak, North Palisade, Starlight Peak, and Thunderbolt Peak. We had initially had a good sized group going with us, but in the end Mike was the only other person who could make it. So the three of us set out on Friday morning for a nice long weekend of climbing.

There was a lot of water flowing in the North Fork of Big Pine Creek.

The North Fork again, but several miles farther up the trail.

Second Lake.

Sam Mack Meadow. We're headed up the snow chute in the middle of the picture rather than the switchbacks to the left which were covered in snow as well.
